The GESTAR team has improved the design, saving at least 18% of energy costs, in the modernization project of Callén WUA irrigation networks, in the province of Huesca (Spain), by applying the GESTAR/TELEGESTAR tools.
The company OHL, building such a system, hired the team GESTAR to review and update the project of the two networks, with seldom direct pumping stations, that supplies water to more than 1,170 ha of irrigated land, and modify them for optimum operation by intelligent demand management. Thanks to this innovative work, the WUA system can operate reliably, without pressure deficit, and enjoy a high reduction of energy costs. To do this, the irrigation schedule is organized in a way that the maximum capacities of the pumping stations are used during the night, when it is found the cheapest price of energy, and then reduced to the minimum in the of more expensive daily period.
To achieve these goals PRO-IRRIGATION, a new advanced module of TELEGESTAR was used, boosted with the extensive GESTAR team experience. The bottlenecks on infrastructures were identified overcoming the construction and operational limitations, reforming the sizing of those pipes, hydrants and pumping equipment as necessary for overcome these restrictions. Thus, with minor modifications, substantial savings are expected in terms of annual electricity bill.
